Box will likely have swarf in it so full fluid change and magnetic plug might be a good idea. Probably get a used box for the same amount of cash. Yours might have failed due to insufficient lubrication. Fiat revised the oil quantity upwards for some of those boxes to ensure sufficient lubrication of 5th.
I'm having an excessif oil consumption on my 2004 ducato 2.8 JTD mileage 135000km . It consumed 2.0 liters oil for the last 1300 km. Before it never needed to be topped up between oil changes. (Oil changed yearly after approx 7000 km/year) No oil leaks visible, I checked turbo in and outlet and the are clean. Cooling water no oil mixture.
